  1. You forgot: 1. Vietnam giving docking and port facilities to the Indian Navy. 2. India supporting Vietnam's and all other ASEAN nation's claims to the SCS. 3. India's military buildup on the Nicobar and Andeman Islands. 4. India's naval buildup in general, enabling them to cut off Indian Ocean trade to China. China's navy is not strong enough to stop that. China is practicing 17th century mercantilism, which will not work in the long run. There will be short term gains that makes it appear like they are winning, but it isn't so. Problem is, China is not really making long term friends and allies. It is making enemies of its trading partners -- which grossly stupid. Who likes China? Not the SE Asian nations. Not the US, anymore. Not UK & EU, either. African countries like China, but that is only because they want China's money. If China tries to use dollar diplomacy to create neo-colonies -- that won't work. The west has tried that and failed. The countries of Africa will maintain their independence.

  2. My feeling is that China is overplaying its hand, in almost all areas. I think the OBOR initiative will greatly benefit the countries of central Asia, but NOT benefit China all that much.
