  2. I never thought America would become a mean, cruel, and heartless place. Life can be mean, cruel, and heartless, but I never thought that this cruelty would be enshrined in our laws, in our government, and in our police. What has America become?? Can we ever recover? Can we again become a people that respects people, and shares our nation's bounty?? With the Republicans gaining in power, I begin to doubt it.
