As shopping moves on-line, Amazon grows bigger and bigger. A few old brick and mortar stores might be able to survive, like Home Depot, WalMart, Macy's, and a few others. But, most will suffer. There will be fewer brick and mortar stores in the future. Fewer malls, smaller malls, maybe specialized malls will exist.

Online buying has replaced in-store sales more and more. I now buy many things on Amazon that I used to buy at stores. Lots of small stuff -- razors, glasses, plates, rugs, toilet seat, vitamins, pens, toner, and so much more. I go out to shop at stores at least 50% less than I did 20 years ago. I still buy as much. Much is now on-line.

You will see an increase in sales direct from manufacturer to customer. For instance -- furniture. Normally, there is a 100% markup for the store for furniture. It has been that way for forever. BUT -- if when people buy direct they can get better deals. PLUS -- the manufacturer also gets a better deal. They are cutting out the middle man. People will use stores as a showroom to see what they want ---- THEN -- they go home and order it on the internet. That is how I bought a living room chair recently. Interpreting what is happening by just looking at store closings may be misleading.
