That is because The Onion's stories are more credible and rational than real news. We live in a crazy world, don't you know?

@FMHikari I think that is difficult. The actions would have to be malicious and planned. Being merely incompetent would not be enough to get liability.
16
@FMHikari I don't think so, if they are employees. For bad work, employees get fired. Any legal liabilities, the company holds the bag.
8
@FMHikari Proving malice is difficult, IMO. Also, when a person is incompetent, they probably don't have the talent to be malicious. That requires competency, I think.

It's not an order until he says, "Simon says..." Right?

Fun party game... Take 10 Onion headlines, and 10 real news headlines -- pair them up, and put each pair to your party guests, guests have to choose which is the real headline, and which is the Onion headline. You will be surprised at how difficult it is.

Through Trump, Americans are getting an education on how fraud is done.

Objection: Wait a minute. Lawyers don't lie??? Aren't most politicians lawyers? Don't politicians lie? Hence, ergo, and ipso facto lawyers lie.
3
God, I love Kirk Douglas. Amazing performance. Another Oscar winner, IMO.

I doubt any lawyer would want Elon Musk as a client --- a guy who cannot shut up on Twitter.
2
The book was written before EPA and OSHA existed. Also, the book does not say it happens in the USA. For all we know, its England, or some other developing country.
2
@hamslicemcdooogle8080 Nah. Knocking Tyson out was a piece of cake for our hero, George Santos.
2
Wait a minute. Lawyers don't lie??? You obviously have not watched any politicians (who are all mostly lawyers, by the way.)
2
Question: Who is more addicted to Twitter??? Trump or Musk??
1
Brats gone bad. They thought it was no different than cheating in Monopoly.
1
I object to your suit. I could never rule in favor of someone represented by an attorney who does not know how to dress. Yes, I know that ill-fitting style is trendy today, but in the near future it will be laughed at. As it should be. Get a suit where the sleeves are long enough to go to the wrist when standing, and for the jacket to be buttoned without stretch wrinkles. Also, fire your tailor.

America is a very litigious country. I believe much more so than any European country. Could Elon Musk have underestimated the legal problems he has brought upon himself through Twitter?? Not only will his legal troubles cost him money, but possibly more importantly for him, they will take up his time and energy. Elon likes to spend his time and energy building new businesses - conquering new challenges. Instead he will be dealing with motions, and rulings, and lawyers. For him, I think it will be a sort of hell.
1
You need to do some famous courtroom movies ---- these come to mind Town Without Pity 12 Angry Men (OK, a jury room movie, Henry Fonda version) The Caine Mutiny To Kill A Mockingbird Witness For The Prosecution (Tyrone Power and Charles Laughton version) A Few Good Men
1
@vapx0075 Love it. First you insult me. Then you explain the insult. WOW - that's extreme.
1
George Santos is the most amazing man. Little known fact (he is so humble), Santos won an Oscar for playing himself in his self-written and self-directed movie about himself, "It's All About Me". Unfortunately, his movie has not been released because Donald Trump is suing Santos for stealing the title from him.

You need to do Judgement At Nuremburg.
1
Skydancer --- similar toy in the 50's -- but the rotor had a ring around it, so the blades could not strike you. It was fun, and no damage ever done.
1
Point of Order: Mailing address is a key part of proving residence. Residence is a key part of proving who you are. Hence, telephone and utility bills addressed to a person have commonly been used to establish a person's identity. SOooo, if the post office delivers Santa Claus's mail to you, then you ARE Santa Claus.
1
It is a good thing you clarified your headline --- Idiocracy (The Movie) As opposed to -- Idiocracy (The Trump Administration). Although, I would like you to analyze the legalities and illegalities of the Trump Administration, too.
1
A KarenBot?? OMG -- is that the bot from hell?? Karens are obnoxious and annoying. You want to automate that?? Humanity will end, not from nuclear war, but from mass suicide caused by ubiquitous KarenBots.
1
Wait a minute. You forget the biggest thing in his defense, that allows him to do all these illegal, unsafe, or immoral things ---- he looks cute doing them. Doesn't cuteness count for anything?? When will the real world catch up to Hollywood??
1
Ok...Do some classic stuff, like Witness For the Prosecution (Charles Laughton, Tyrone Power) or a Perry Mason episode's trial scenes.

I am an old fashioned guy. I like things done in old fashioned way. For me, the assault on the capitol was sedition, rebellion, and treason. Traitors are hung. A large scaffold, capable of executing all the convicted rebels at once should be built. It should be built on the capitol mall, and all the rebels hung at the same time. Then, as what was once traditional, the bodies left to rot, and be eaten by carrion, until the bones fall off. The visual spectacle will act as a deterrent against future "rebellions".

I love your Christmas law books - bound in a holiday festive red leather.
1
To be fair, Elon Musk has had more than some success. He has had a LOT of success.
1
@truthalonetriumphs6572 What does Matthew Perry have to do with the discussion? Can you clarify?
1
The Supreme Court will decide to favor Trump. We know it is corrupt. The Supreme Court has been bought and paid for. It represents the billionaires, not us.
1
Wage & hour violation is in UK, not US. He pays in pounds, not dollars. So, he is ok. If UK still operates under Dickensian era laws.
1
Such a simple situation. Common sense should prevail. Geico is obviously not involved. BUT, then the LAW gets involved. I could not believe how long you talked on this. I could not believe how complicated it had become. Lawyers are paid way too much to argue stupid legal points like this. This is why the US has more lawyers than the rest of the world combined. Lawyers have taken over, and are running amuck. There should be a law that politicians cannot be lawyers. Since lawyers right the laws, and vote on them, they create laws that will require lots of litigation.
1
How about Judgement At Nuremburg? About the most important trial in history, IMO.
1
Fun party game --- Get 10 Onion articles. Get 10 real articles. See who at the party can identify which ones are real, and which ones are Onions. It will be surprisingly difficult.
1
A "haunted" or "not haunted" sign is the same a "Democrat" or "Republican" sign I think.
1
What about Santa Claus being repeatedly guilty of trespass???
1
We fought the Revolutionary War to get rid of aristocrats and Aristocracy, where two sets of laws and courts existed -- one for the commoner, and another for the peerage. Well, today we have a new aristocracy. The super rich are treated differently -- different laws, different prosecutions, even different prisons. Even if a rich person does get convicted, they spend their time in a luxury prison. But, they are rarely convicted. Their money buys great lawyers, and lenient judges.
1
Netflix must make a movie on this. I would love to see Jim Carrey playing the defense attorney.
1
Objection. You think way too much about "The Law", and not enough about PEOPLE. Who would convict a likable old man?? Who would sustain the complaint of a nasty mean-spirited charlatan?? The psychiatrist is a misanthrope detested and hated by all. In what court could he prevail???
1
Wow...what a segue into a commercial. So impressed.
1
Objection: Your own statements of improper procedure prove the invalidity of a B+ grade. A lower grade, C+ or B-, would be proper. I think you have conflated the entertainment value of the film with its legal accuracy, thereby creating a confused, and ultimately invalid, grade.

Cannibal Cabbage Patch Dolls!? I love it. 😂👌 This what makes America great.
