  1. Scipio's enemies in the Senate opposed his appointment for the attack on Carthage. So, they tried to hamstring Scipio by giving him the shamed legions that lost at Cannae. Scipio took those legions to Sicily. Filled them with new recruits so they were properly manned. He then trained them in Sicily. After that, he took the shamed legions of Cannae and defeated Hannibal with them. This story I read in Livy, the great Roman historian. When the story of Zama is told, the story of the defeated shamed legions of Cannae must also be told.
