Also, I realize that Alberta doesn't like to admit this, but when East West pipeline went down in flames that was around the same time that a barrel of oil was below $40 (with Trump opening Alaska oil, it's possible this goes down to this number again which would destroy the Alberta economy, then what?!?) and at one point even touched $25 and multiple corporations said it just wasn't viable financially but yeah the Liberals didn't help (nor did Harper for that matter either but still conveniently memory holed like so many other things). The reason east pipeline wasn't completed was that it was considered financially unviable by the multinational foreign Corporations that own our oil. This was for a variety of reasons. Some of it Quebec, some of it logistics. Some of it was just the low price of oil at the time, but simplistic blame that ignores some pretty complex issues that unless we're capable of remembering our history, we are bound to repeat.

Currently, over 70% of all oil industry is owned by foreigners & that money is removed from Canada & is minimally taxed, while most of the cleanup is paid for by Canadians, not to mention the billions in subsidies. If it was actually a national oil project, that Canadians mostly benefited from that would be one thing. However, most of the conservatives & Liberals too for that matter, want Canadians to pay for all of the development and risks, then take a loss, so that they're foreign donors can get it on the cheap, while paying a minimum on taxes. The TMX pipeline, with an original purchase cost + build, was almost $40 billion and took 13 years to complete with a projected loss of an estimated $15 billion to taxpayers when it's sold & yet despite the objections of almost half of BC, the Liberals forced the project through, regardless to keep "the West" happy and by West they mean one province........

The reason east pipeline wasn't completed was that it was considered financially unviable by the multinational foreign Corporations that own our oil. This was for a variety of reasons. Some of it Quebec, some of it logistics. Some of it was just the low price of oil at the time, but simplistic blame that ignores some pretty complex issues that unless we're capable of remembering our history, we are bound to repeat.
