  6. Yep, the previous version of this same plane. What amazes me is Alaska knew there was a pressurization issue with the plane but rather than fix it they gave a directive that it only ever fly over land and not the sea. I guess if something happens over land crashing into earth is better than crashing into the ocean, cheaper ? The idiocy all round is just amazing.

  7.  @soulsbourne They were lucky the door didn't hit the rear stabilizer. That would have been an immediate loss of control and requiring great skill to figure out what happened and compensate for it. The worst single aircraft accident ever was JAL in the 80's where a botched repair resulted in the loss of the tail fin. No one in a simulator has ever been able to reproduce the 30 minutes those brave pilots managed to keep that 747 flying. RIP.

  9. In the 80's we used to talk about Airbus planes doing weird stuff when the fly by wire went nuts and the pilots had to fight the planes to keep from crashing. We swore we'd never set foot in one, hell, I used to actively avoid them and pick Boeing planes for our journeys. Fast forward to 2023 when the Boeing 747 is on the verge of disappearing into the history books, modern Boeing planes are now firmly on the avoid list. The last flights I took have all been on Airbus and a 747 from Heathrow to JFK and an A380 from JFK to Frankfurt.

  22. The UK used to have about a dozen of plane manufacturers after the war through to the 60's. Now they have none through sheer incompetence. The Dash8 that was involved in the JAL 757 accident was built by a Canadian company that used to be British.

  23. If this was BA I wouldn't have been surprised one bit. The bitter old feminists have managed to eliminate the cute younger stewardesses on the routes that I fly. That said BA is such a toxic shadow of its former self I tend to pick other airlines like Singapore or Emirates.

  31. A work colleague who was a friend and like a surrogate father to me died from brain cancer. His insurance company refused to authorize a drug that was prescribed by his oncologist. It was a horrible death. I feel absolutely nothing for this so called CEO that has probably ☠ more people than many war time generals in the US army.
