  2. Year and years ago I visited a friend in Cyprus that lived across the street from the US embassy in Nicosia. The thing that I will never forget was being afraid that I'll take cockroaches back to the UK with me in my luggage. For a couple of days before I departed Nicosia I left my hand luggage open outside on the balcony, in the open air, to make sure none of the buggers hitched a ride. Bed bugs are a whole other level. Funnily enough now that I live within spitting distance of NYC I do have concerns about bringing roaches home whenever I go through Grand Central and take one of those filthy trains home!

  4. The countryside in the US has a severe problem with deer ticks. They're everywhere and carry a debilitating ailment called Lyme disease. During the 1st year of "the virus of indeterminate origin", the infestation was incredibly bad. Just stepping outside you were almost guaranteed to bring one of these buggers in with you. I douse myself in insect repelant before going out to cut the grass. Once done I strip naked in the garage, toss all the clothes in the washer on the hottest wash cycle and go straight to the shower to scrub myself down. Once the wash cycle is done the clothes get dumped in the electric dryer on the highest heat setting. So, yeah, you have the right idea!
