  1. I don't know whether you've seen video of planes where the pilots are struggling to keep control of them? Especially when the pitot tubes are involved or the software gets a mind of its own? Those usually end with an unscheduled rapid deconstruction on the ground after struggling to maintain altitude. Masks usually are the least of the passengers concerns. Maybe even blacking out from lack of oxygen would be the better way to go before the end.

  2. I'm old enough to remember how getting on a plane in the 70's and early 80's was something to be looked forward to. Now that I live in the US I actively avoid going anywhere near an airport and if I do I get as expensive a ticket as I can to move in a space where I can avoid the nightmare that modern air travel has become. Shudder. That's why we can never have and keep nice things. [edit] I forgot about the allowing cigarette smoking back then. Of the many things that is one thing that needed to go.
