I just saw the Institute for Justice video about this. Absolutely disgraceful. Woman has a 30 year old son but the person they're looking for is in her 20's.

millions of gallons were "stolen" yet the meter shows no water was used. Yeah, that makes total sense.
361
I support police but there are times when they make this very hard to do. Civil Asset Forfeiture, Immunity, Extortion, bribery, lying to slap people in jail, on, and on and on. 😡
244
I saw an accident where a SEMI hit an RV that was towing an SUV. After seeing that accident I knew that I would NEVER own one. It exploded like a pigeon being hit by a high speed train.

Surely no American corporation would ever manipulate the arbitration process. That NEVER, EVER happens. What a crock.
192
How can it be that a HOA was the saving grace in the story. Probably the only time since the beginning of the universe.

Isn't this the same Atlanta where the cops search people while they're trying to board flights at the airport and seize any cash they have on them? The more I hear about the place the more I'm empowered to avoid the cesspit.
74
Oh, wait, Isn't this also the same Atlanta that knocks down peoples homes because they got the address wrong then proceeds to deny responsibility?
57
What I find amazing about Americans is the statement in the declaration of Independence: "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" It seems that so many Americans are more interested in making sure that "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" never happens.
44
Almost every corporation in current year think it's their right to abuse customers with no repercussions.
42
Anyone else notice that it seems corporations are going out of their way to not be responsible for anything they do or fail to do? What is the point of contract law when all these garbage corporations will bare face lie that they aren't responsible in any way.
39
As a Brit watching from the colonies, the UK makes me sadder and sadder by the day. Some people ghosted themselves over this. While the people in charge got recognition and awards. I believe one of them got a knighthood.
34
@nikkimcdonald4562 That is criminal. After seeing the I10 accident I watched a RV "How it's made" video on the Science channel. The amount of care taken for something that will travel down a highway at speed is essentially zero. That's why they explode into little bits when challenged.
33
@cpufrost Holy shit, absolutely not. RIP all the people that were in that thing.
32
California, the land where all the Karens get together and make life worse for EVERYONE.
24
Nope. JPMorgan. Wells Fargo isn't even close.
19
My brand new Honda did that to me. Clear road, sunny skies, no hazards. Flashed up a warning and activated the breaks. I went somewhere yesterday and fell in behind a car because I was exiting the highways and the stupid thing flashed up the BRAKE warning. It is absolutely infuriating. Worse than a back seat driver.
19
Apparently he decided he really didn't want to go to San Francisco that bad. [except] he ended up in Portland :face-fuchsia-tongue-out:
16
@OtakuNoShitpost Lane assist was the first thing I turned off. I live in an area where there are very few straight sections of roadway. Driving the car was like having Karen's mother with her hands firmly on the steering wheel. You never knew what the car was going to do next especially with oncoming traffic.
16
@beadyeye2312 Man. I can only imagine, Being British we have a lot of high speed trains and we often get the chance to see the immediate aftermath of a high speed pigeon encounter.
15
@cbkqmom Yep, that's the one. I was confused as to where the truck came from too. Absolutely shocking how fast everything went sideways and no protection at all from the RV, none.
14
Arbitrate in Uber's kangaroo' court? Gotcha.
12
Sounds like Texas is literally the wild west when it comes to Police Activity. Who knew.
11
I am so glad I live out in the countryside with no police or impound lots.
10
Another reason not to post anything about yourself online. NOTHING.
9
@GeorgeWashingtonLaserMusket Its a joke.
9
Wait, we're supposed to feel sympathy for these people that were instrumental in the last crash ?
7
Hey, at least a woman was running the joint. Almost as awesome as the BBC.

@SayAhh One of my favorites was a colleague who was notorious for believing he was infallible and would make changes and not test them but push the changes to production. I get into the office around 7am and I'm looking at the production logs and there's activity that's not making sense. A couple minutes later my phone rings and its the production support team saying the New York stock exchange called to ask whether our orders were valid. I twigged and looked closer and every second since 6:30am when the software started it would generate and send massive unsolicited orders for Google stock. Guess what saved us? It was prior to the market opening and NYSE was rejecting the orders. If this happened during the day it would have been in the billions and on the news. I have other stories but maybe for another day.

Probably "the greatest dancer" too. Sister Sledge have a song by that name.

In the 90's I stupidly bought a US manufactured Saab 9000 CSE. Worst car I ever owned. I'll never forget going to the dealer and listening to some lady crying over how bad the computer system in her brand new Saab was - this was the first gen of the tech all vehicles have now. I never bought another US manufactured vehicle after I traded the darn thing in for a Subaru.
6
I am so glad I live in the countryside with a well. The only thing that isn't created locally here in internet as my home is 100% renewable. My local electricity supplier is the worst so in 2019 I wen't 100% renewable.
6
@climber950 importing more fighting age men from countries that hate their country.
6
WEll deserved decline. Even the large tech corporations that fed into the insanity are leaving too.
6
"Where we're going we don't need no stinking roads." That's why Avis Hertz, sorry Avis justifiably wrote the bill. Back to the future V the rental corporation is always right.
6
@bosshog8844 100% a bot
5
I guess the cop figured it is civil asset forfeiture.
5
@calebfielding6352 How stupid and ignorant the programmers are. I've worked in finance software for 20+ years, unfortunately, and some of the horrors I've seen by really stupid people/programmers that are getting paid handsomely would make you shudder. Add AI to the mix and its just going to be a massive shit show.

@GamesFromSpace A few days after I was laid off I was feeling a little unwell. I was advised to go to the hospital. They put an IV in me and around 8pm said that they want to keep me overnight for observation. I was let go at 1pm the following afternoon after a couple more tests in late morning. Other than two meals and some pain killers, IV and tests that was it. A couple weeks later a bill for $18,900 landed on my doorstep. I dunno about the American dream but it's more like the American Nightmare ....
4
@LemonChick She needs to hand back the almost 3 million pounds in bonuses too. What a travesty. To hear they lied to cover their tracks they should all be in jail.
4
We never saw that coming. The most amazing thing to me is why no one is asking why even in such large cities these same people pick the same dude to date, dox and pillory? Maybe he's not the problem.
4
I'm assuming that if you've ever used it, 10 years from now, god forbid you get hit by an Uber driver you are bound by their terms. This is exactly what Disney tried to pull.
4
Texas keeps having these issues.
4
@angelachouinard4581 You've hit on the reason I've decided to retire. Every job that I've applied to recently requires you to do a test against the clock. Even though I know how to solve the problems part of me just says this isn't the sort of environment I want to work in and exit the test before the timer is up. I wish you and everyone luck in the high speed dystopia to come. It's just a race to the bottom.
4
Of course it's an NPR station. Should anyone be shocked ?
3
Hertz? How can it not be Hertz? Not only is it physically not possible to drive the distance it's also not possible for this not to be Hertz.
3
@Nick-zp8wk Oh man. I haven't been back in over 6 years. The last time I was in Europe was Germany in 2019. Even my friends in London keep telling me not to come "home".
3
@Gabby-bot Can you imagine being accused of stealing millions by a large bank and you have nothing except their records to defend yourself? At least with physical cash you'd need to walk into the bank to steal. I can guarantee you any bank will have 100's more lawyers that cost them nothing than you'll be able to afford.

plandemic

Pretty sure they have very tasty retirement packages
