  1. I think I'd been to Swindon once. Doesn't it have a lot of roundabouts? I vaguely remember one horrific construct with a larger roundabout surrounded by smaller roundabouts - not long after I'd passed my drivers test. This was in the 90's just before I escaped Blair's UK.

  2. I live in a town in the countryside of the US where there are no police and where a lot of famous people have second homes. Those terraced houses give me the willies as most of them probably cost more than my home that is on a large plot of land and my nearest neighbor is over 1000 feet away from me. They remind me of the places I lived as a teen in Sunderland, Hackney and then Enfield. I don't miss them at all. Yes, I lived in NYC for some years and the conditions there were even worse considering what you were paying and what you actually get - like going to work on the subway early on the morning and there's a whacked out couple covered in blood carrying luggage that is spilling out everywhere also covered in blood and not a cop to be seen.

  3. Hard to do on terraced houses. A friend of mine lives in a terraced house in Kent, on their street there is a garden at the back and in the front of the house so they have very nice plantings. Some people turn the space at the front into hideous concrete parking pads.
