i would also add a lot of working class areas alongside the rural bloc

SF's traditional support base was drawn from rural and working class areas, in recent years though they have begun peddling more progressive identity politics in an attempt to win votes of more upper class people such as well off university types who call themselves republicans as a sort of fashion statement almost, which in turn has alienated a lot of their traditional base
23
@tiglishnobody8750 same-sex marriage is nowhere near as big as concern to people as open borders
14
What is their immigration policy?
11
Denmark also showed how easily it can be solved, those states who make excuses are governed by those making money from mass immigration
11
@SDDT10 Why though? That won't win many working class votes
10
Mary Lou is a privately educated woman from posh South Dublin, not sure how they though appointing her president of a party that calls itself party of the working class was a good idea
9
this is called globalism, the elites at the top raking the cash in but very little trickles down and because the elites are getting rich everyone else is supposed to be happy for them
5
@User-qf2ex in touch with people at the time though, now it is the opposite
3
@fitzstv8506 the turnout was poor, local elections are a lot different and polls on immigration show how wrong you are
3
I live in a working class area of Ireland and I can tell you the money does not trickle down, Ireland as a country resembles a pyramid scheme, we have all this money yet we cannot even construct a rail link to our main airport
3
only liberals would be smart enough to think letting in millions of unskilled migrants would be a benefit
2
@00PlPu00 they are both linked, globalism is a type of capitalism
2
A federal Europe might be popular with rich university educated liberals but it won't go down well with millions of working class Europeans.
2
@zedtrek more excuses, countries can easily stop high levels of immigration if they want
2
this has been well planned, they bring in migrants from poor states knowing they will work for little hence no need to raise wages
2
so Irish people should build housing for anyone that turns up in Ireland and says they want to live here regardless of them having no qualifications or job lined up?
2
simple, young people aren't happy with liberal boomers and Gen X making them compete with migrants for things like housing
2
because boomers have ruined European society and culture
2
It could happen the question is who'd want to join?
2
an eonomic boom benefitting the top of society so for some reason the lower classes should be happy
2
skin colour has nothing to do with, check the nationalities of asylum seekers
2
@ So what's the point of them being a party at all?
1
you can have a problem with oligarchs while wanting controlled immigration
1
while i agree jack, modern day SF are anything but nationalists
1
you live in a fantasy land Rory, try visiting a working class area and you will see most are in favour of tougher immigration control
1
you can be left-wing and be in favour of tighter immigration checks
1
@Choon- wanting immigration control is not a nationalist, socialist, liberal issue etc, there is left-wing governed states with stricter immigration control than Ireland
1
SF has traditionally been the main party of nationalist community in the North and the nationalist population has grown up there so not as big a shock as down here in the South
1
wanting immigration policies that work is not racism
1
@shakezist you don't know what that word means
1
wait till you hear about immigration laws in Africa
1
SF's traditional base is working class, in France the working class voted for the right
1
nothing will happen, how many build ups has there been in the last 7 years ? this isn't the first time
