  1. Totalitarian assholes tainted Socialism for everyone. The ideology is of empowering the workers, owning your labor, abolishing private property and the State. Anyone like me that advocates for some capitalism, as a Social Democrat, is not Socialist. However left-wing stances is more of self-reliance and freedom from authorities politically, socially, and economically. There are many Socialist schools of thought, but I know one thing for sure; totalitarianism, command economies, and State control and ownership is not Socialism as it's antithetical to the ideology itself.
