Calvin Scott You're right. What I meant specifically I suppose was a slave state. Of course similar institutions prevailed. But imagine if the Confederacy seceded. More years without progress. Racism will remain an issue until there aren't races, or the concept of it.

Calvin Scott But slavery would have continue, that's many generations dead of slave labor and suffering crimes against humanity. Also the tensions between such countries would have continued, border lines disputed. I'm sure the racist regime would have sought wars with Mexico for more territory and potential slaves. There would have been potentially more wars between three sovereign states in North American soil.

Calvin Scott European powers spread an ideology of "White Man's Burden" throughout the Age of Exploration. They clearly were ethnocentric and viewed their culture, religion, and overall society as greater than all others. This escalated racism. Slavery institutions started for economic convenience and these people's superiority complex. Of course I know slavery is not unique to America, we weren't even talking about it so I didn't have to bring it up to the argument we are having. Slavery was worse in Brazil than in the U.S. Portuguese were a special kind of assholes. We were talking about slavery and the Confederacy, so stop trying to say I'm ignorant of facts. Slavery is as old as civilization. Romans perfected the practice. Egyptians took to slavery. Any people with a superiority complex engaged in the practice. African tribes enslaved each other. Yes I know it's a fact of history. When talking about the institution in the U.S. however it leads back to the ideologies and dogma of European Christian nations. And since in the South the dominant culture was dictated by slave owners then yes the majority of the people were racist. And those ideals continued into post-Reconstruction and Jim Crow era. Racism won't die until a paradigm shift occurs in the dominant culture ideology. But it's long way off if it'll ever happen.

Since Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan the UK and US have this shitty neoliberal conservative economic policy harming domestic workforce. We have to end this cycle of corporations and politicians keeping a status quo of sustaining wealth and power undermining our democratic institutions.

The socialists that fought for public education are rolling in their graves. Capitalist government has made a mockery of education.

When it comes to eugenics or genetic engineering the best applications are for preventing diseases, extinctions of species, providing more substance and potentially prevent hunger etc... But do not all out play God!

DustyO'Rusty A lot of people just wanted a disrupter in the White House. Someone that makes everyone squirm as a fuck you for doing nothing and keeping the status quo. From Republicans to corporate Democrats these parties are utter garbage and the peoples interest is secondary or tertiary to keeping the corporations status quo.

I love Colbert and all but I just think Oliver is more realist in his approach
