I mean Orwell would have disliked liberal California but he wouldn’t at all equate it to an Orwellian dystopia. 1984 was about the totalitarian superstates of his time (USSR, Nazi Germany, Franco’s Spain). He would have at least praised the liberal’s social stances whereas the Republicans are trying to implement illiberal policies and trying to limit democracy. Orwell opposed conservatism period. They also really have no idea how much Red States depend economically on the urban hubs like California. Red States are subsidized from these liberal cities and states.
