The system is built to follow partisan party lines instead of actually keeping checks and balances. Any “conservative” that does not seek to hold these Justices accountable for breach of ethics then they should never be allowed to masquerade as “traditionalists” or “republicans” again.

Yes! It’s a radical traditionalist Catholic organization who’s interpretations of Thomistic natural law is in direct contradiction with American tradition of secular and Enlightenment based jurisprudence. The original Federalists like John Jay weren’t originalists nor anything like the Federalist Society

@geraldmeehan8942 that isn’t in the constitution. But the Republican structure of government was one that, the Federalists, sought to achieve by balancing between interest groups. John Adams viewed a Republic in the classical sense, a balance of monarchy, aristocracy, and democracy in its structures. James Madison believed the wealthy elite should be protected from a democratic tyranny that could confiscate their wealth and property on whims. To be fair he was not advocating aristocracy, he wasn’t for the wealthy oppressing the people either. He wanted the opulent and popular masses to participate and have their rights in a Republican government. But there were other views of Republican government as well. Jefferson viewed a government Republican depending on how democratic and actual self-governing was implemented. The more individuals and citizens had a say in governing affairs the more Republican that government.

@nil981 in due time. But for a while I’m afraid reforms and amendments are the avenue that we can take. An entirely new constitution would take great political and social revolution, and frankly the results of revolution aren’t always ideal, trading one tyranny for another. But I say revolution is never a done business and always fight and strive for a better world

@geraldmeehan8942 yes but the Constitution was a compromising document for better or worse. Not all of Madison’s ideals became imbedded, and that still doesn’t change the nuance of his republican views I expressed before. He wasn’t advocating tyranny of the wealthy over the masses. What can be argued is whether the structures set up make that the reality or not. I tend to agree with Spooner on the Constitution
