  1. The history and link is there. Not only is it not the actual flag of the Confederacy, it’s the flag of a Confederate battalion, the usage of Confederate paraphernalia as it is still used today became popular during the Civil Rights era against desegregation and reaction to the movement in the American South. It was brought in bulk as a symbol of keeping the lessers in their place. The monuments to Confederates also sprung up in this era. It’s all just racist intimidation of blacks. You’d think if they were proud of southern heritage they’d pick symbols that can unite all of the South, not just white nationalists and racists. Appalachia has more symbols, and figures that can be admired by Southerners, symbols not bigoted towards non-whites

  2.  @linkonar7823  these cloths are symbols, and symbolism is an element of civilization. The fact the anyone puts any worth to these pieces of “magical” cloths itself is a sign of the sociological “rituals” tendency. Though I guess you’re right, symbols are whatever people project into it
