  2. Well classically liberalism has an emphasis on freedom above everything. However today liberalism is social liberalism, which emphasizes recognizing systemic hindrances to the liberalism of minorities or those of lesser socio-economic status. It's an attempt to be more equal of opportunity, providing society with safety nets, opportunity for education, for social mobility etc... So classically it's enough to have freedom, liberties, equality before the law. Modern social liberalism says that's not enough and a representative democracy should make the institutions in place provide equality where systemic hindrances are in place. Also note that classical liberalism also has a focus on freedom of the individual, social liberalism looks towards egalitarianism of the groups in a society, where they will be free from being underprivileged due to their lot in life. As best we can because for now at least it's not like we're getting rid of poverty completely anytime soon.

  3.  @aquavitae3824  What an intellectually disingenuous comment. The further left the ideology the less dependence upon authoritative or coercive powers upon the individual. True Socialism, not to be confused with dictatorship, State control and command economies, would give people ownership of their labor and through democratic decision making organize, abolish private property, and supplant the State. It would be far more self-reliant than the laissez-faire system. Social liberalism endorses a market economy and the expansion of civil and political rights while also believing that the legitimate role of the government includes addressing economic and social issues such as poverty, health care and education. Under social liberalism, the good of the community is viewed as harmonious with the freedom of the individual. Therefore the ideal political organization to input these ideals is Social Democracy. We see this among Nordic nations and they really aren't suffering from lack of liberties or freedoms. Right wing libertarianism is a bastardization of the original left wing libertarianism, synonymous with anti-capitalism and anti-authority among socialist groups.
