When you remember that scene of Ted saying he would go back and meet the mother earlier to spend more time with her as he pours his heart out, that really shows you how the story was ruined to copy Friends. First off they were never going to be as good as Friends simply because there’s only one Chandler Bing. But even though they gave this scene hinting at the mother’s death it was heart warming and to set her aside for a circular story.... we already have Ross and Rachel and that was perfect as is.
