James Robinson Slynt was a sworn brother of the Night’s Watch, a member of an order with rules. The Tarlys were a House defending their country, following orders, and fighting invaders. They had no duty to Daenerys. It was Dany’s prerogative to execute them, though dragon fire is harsh like they didn’t have to do it like that. But just the same she could have kept them prisoner. She’s acting like Aegon the Conqueror, evidently they aren’t that much better than their forefathers.

t s this is wrong. Daenerys has never quit her ambitions to sit the Iron Throne. She said she would temporarily stay at Meereen to stabilize Slaver’s Bay/Bay of Dragons. She conquered the place and decide to remain to keep the place in order. She was still a Queen and never said she’s giving up any crown. Same as for her alliance with the North. She wants everyone to kneel. Her entire arc has been about taking her Targaryen Westeros crown. Nothing has suggested she would give up her crown. As far as she’s concerned she IS what is best for the people and is the rightful Queen. Giving up the crown means giving up the monarchy as Jon did. It doesn’t mean postponing her conquest for something else temporarily. She always wanted to be the Queen.

James Pack of course not. But the fact remains that they thought they were independent and are being stronghold to kneel for aid in a war coming. Jon is full of crap when we all saw Dany make the alliance and commitment before Jon gave up his crown. They raised the question this episode that he didn’t do it out of duty but because he has feelings for Daenerys and wanted to show her commitment. In truth Jon only brought more division by giving up his crown. Now people are more pissed. Imagine after Dany agreed to fight with the North, since she had even lost a dragon by then she would want to deal with this treat and avenge her son, Jon still had his crown and people would be less pissed and more friendly to an ally that didn’t want to sovereign over them immediately.

Sandra Edelstein I think people forget that it’s a different standard with Daenerys. True she is acting as usual monarchs and lords do, but she’s also a Targaryen. She has centuries of incest in her and her father was a sane person until later in life something snapped.

lamine428 it’s how they’re writing her though. Everyone else hasn’t proven they’re genius either. Sam and Bran are the only ones that know what’s up. And Sansa is being a competent leader but she must soon realize that at the moment the dead are the greater threat than the living. Which will probably happen next episode when they find out about Ned Umber.

John Jones part of the reason for executing the Night’s Watch Brother was leaving his post and not warning the Nights Watch of whatever it was he ran from. He ran directly South of the Wall without reporting back to Castle Black. For some people the Targaryen Conqueror within Dany is evident, others say she’s a Machiavellian leader normal for the times. Both are true, but the point remains we have two Targaryens and you know what they say, “whenever a Targaryen is born the gods flip a coin to see if they would be brilliant or mad” Jon and Dany are two sides of a coin. She could just be learning the ropes of being a good and fair Queen, but also this is GoT. Malevolence having a face of beauty is just the kind of realistic undermining of tropes this story provides that had people enamored with in the first place. We shall see where the story goes.

Umi sharqi Fair point. I forgot that tidbit. Yet it wasn’t as easy choices as you make them out to be. They wouldn’t choose the Wall, they are noble lords, they chose to ally with Lannister’s for disagreeing with their liege lords and fearing foreign invaders. And a bit of gold and extra titles probably. These are people who don’t know the real threat, the Walkers, and believe the biggest threat are three dragons and a Conqueror. Tarly remained loyal to the Targaryens in Robert’s Rebellion, and handed Robert his only defeat in the war. He was prisoner to Robert but out of respect for his martial prowess, and to gain a bit of loyalty Robert gave Tarly his lands and titles back. Perhaps Tarly felt he learned from experience and chose to go against his sworn leaders. His liege lords sided with Daenerys, but his Queen was Cersei, Roberts wife. Ultimately he chose his monarch over his liege. He was neither wrong nor right I think, but ultimately it’s Daenerys being a Conqueror that drove their fate. Agree with it or not Dany is behaving like Aegon the Conqueror. Some would say he brought peace and united 6 kingdoms, others would call him a Conqueror that conquered because he could with dragons.
