Kamran Younis Though in recent years Martial Arts has been connoted to only Chinese Wushu/Kung Fu the true meaning of the term means art of war, fighting, or combat, Mars being the Roman god of war. Chinese martial arts was influenced by Indian styles such as Kalaripayattu. The martial arts are many from boxing to Chinese kung fu, to fencing, to wrestling , to MMA etc… Every nation have their own martial arts.

  4. Cap'n Mo Absolutely. Though Yip Man was still only tied to the Wing Chun style. Bruce went on to find his own philosophy and martial art seeking to perfect and expand Kung Fu by being more eclectic and openminded. Safe to say the student surpassed the master. Bruce's legacy is almost mythical. A master martial artist and as a philosopher as important to Chinese martial arts as Confucius is to Chinese ethics and social law and order, and as Lao Tzu is to Chinese mysticism and life, or Sun Tzu to Chinese warfare.

  6. FlippingTables WithMyDik They got to remember that the movie Ip Man was loosely based on the actual Wing Chun Grandmaster. Movies are made for entertaining purposes. He whom they saw on the screen was Donnie Yen not actually Yip Man. Though I am sure Yip Man was a great master.

  9. FlippingTables WithMyDik People see Yip Man as the greatest martial artist of his day but this is based on Donnie Yen's performance in the Ip Man film. The real Yip Man was not a martial artist who went around fighting every chance he got to defend China's honor. Safe to say Bruce surpassed his master as a martial artist, and in reality he will always respect him and never fight him. Yip Man was a grandmaster but not a superhuman.
