I also enjoyed Zizek exposing what I already knew. Peterson’s whole “post-Modern Marxism” shtick has nothing to do with actual Marxism. It’s Sociological Conflict Theory, while a Theory inspired by Marx’s class struggle, oppressor vs oppressed, theories of historical materialism; it is not Marxism. It’s like saying Social Darwinism, a social theory from Herbert Spencer and such, is Darwinism. Charles Darwin’s theories were the influence for this social theory, Darwin himself had nothing to do with it nor was it Darwinism, it in fact contradicts his research.

I couldn’t stand Zizek’s nose touching and sniffing. Regardless he did alright, he’s a character alright. But he didn’t discuss Marxism much. My favorite was Zizek shedding light on Socialist belief that equality is individuals being allowed to develop their own innate abilities, talents, and skills. Such is “the Soul of Man Under Socialism” - Oscar Wilde.

Kilian G. Yet Marx in his lifetime only was able to give his stamp of approval as an example of a dictatorship of the proletariat, to the Paris Commune. This was a decentralized bottom-up worker’s democracy. Marx also admitted that in the most developed nations such as the US, Germany, France, UK etc... the path of Socialism can be done by evolutionary means, that is to say Democratic Socialism where a worker’s party takes power through parliamentary and democratic methods. Marxism is the social critique of the Capitalist System and alternative post-Capitalist future by analyzing historical materialism. Marxism-Leninism did become the dominant strain of Socialism, but it is not exemplary of all Marxism or Socialism. The authoritarian and elitist nature of Marxist-Leninism was all Lenin’s revolutionary politics. The ideas of Democratic Centrism (centralized top-bottom organization), State control of the economy, bureaucratic administration, and leadership of the elite Vanguard Party were all Lenin’s ideas that lead to the system of State Capitalism. This cause criticism from other strains of Marxism and Socialism. Most notably Anarchists and the Marxist Rosa Luxembourg. Luxembourg was more democratically inclined and for Council Communism. That is direct worker’s control and organized worker’s councils. Since Marxist-Leninism became the dominant Marxist ideal of Socialism most political revolutions such as Maoism in China were informed by Lenin’s revolutionary politics. This does not make Marxism-Leninism the definitive Marxism or Socialism. Socialism is a socioeconomic and political ideology with many schools of thought. Markets aren’t exclusive to Capitalism as they can exist in a Socialist economy. Neither is all Socialism Statist control.

Lazy Leftist and we learned Marxism-Leninism was a crap system brought on by a autocratic feudal State not ready for Socialism. They weren’t much industrialized, nor had Capitalism. They went from feudalism straight to State Capitalism. It didn’t help that the Soviets undermined other Socialist movements that weren’t Leninist. As they did with Luxembourg party in Germany. Worst they undermined the moderate Social Democrats who were still Marxist then, and aided the rise of Fascist Nazis. Not to mention undermining Anarchist revolutions in Catalonia and Ukraine. Russians behaved more Nationalist and imperialist than Socialists should. When Lenin made alliances with Fascists it was a wrap, they were traitors to the proletariat and Socialism. Marxism-Leninism is part of Socialist movement and revolution, but it was not for Western industrialized countries, it made the proles fear Socialism, and ultimately fell back to oligarchic capitalism. Lesson learned, Marxism like Luxembourg’s is the way to go. Any Socialism that is anti-authoritarian. Where the working class have direct control over government and bottom-up organization. Freedom is essential for the rule of the proletariat.
