Left wing since the French Revolution means support of greater liberties, egalitarianism, and right wing support of greater hierarchy and authority. That’s the meaning of left-right spectrum. Classical liberalism was once the most leftist position until libertarian socialism. State Socialism is right wing, it’s Statist and centralist. Makes no sense to put Lenin and Stalin in the same wing as Bakunin and Kropotkin. State Socialists are leftists at heart but believe in a party centralized bureaucracy and Statism before achieving communism. Therefore they go right wing to achieve leftist goals. But even in US context right wing should mean support of liberalism, limited government, and republicanism. This is straight up far right authoritarianism.
