What she describes could be migraine. In rare cases these can last years. So diet can help with that. Doesn't work for all but it's worth trying if you suffer.

The brain works in interesting ways. Migraine and epilepsy sufferers often report to have creative phases or mania just before attacks. Maybe the creative and emotional parts in the brain are linked or stimulate each other.
