  5. @jeffk393  If we were building an 'empire' as you suggest, we would be taking land from people. We aren't. Now, to be fair we definitely used to do this, and it was definitely wrong. Now other countries love our military presence because we contribute to their economy and we give them free security. It's like if you're a restaurant owner and the local police like to hang out there. Win, win. You get business, and criminals who would rob you stay away.

Phillipines for example - at one point they wanted the US bases to leave, but now with China threatening to invade its neighbors - now Phillipines is asking for the US to have a LARGER military presence there. It's going to be a case by case thing. I'm sure Cuba wants the US to leave, but for any country that is weak and has a large threatening neighbor - oh they most certainly want us there. I mean, doesn't that make sense to you? It's very logical.
