@AstroGremlinAmerican There has to be a NATO charter to do the right thing? The US helped Europe in WWII without a NATO charter. France helped the US gain independence without a NATO charter. Therefore, NATO countries can and absolutely should assist Ukraine. It's the right thing to do.

Electrical engineer here. Your statement is kind of correct and kind of incorrect. DC and AC current are equally dangerous and could easily kill you, especially when submerged in water. Water - or more precisely, the ions dissolved in water are extremely conductive and are similar to having wires touching all over your body and also touching the power source. Electric currents take all possible paths that complete a circuit but heavily favor the least resistive paths. But! The reason I think your statement is kind of correct is because DC power sources are usually made of many low voltage battery cells connected in series. Low voltages can't push as much electrical current and are much, much safer than high voltages. Depending on the battery technology and how well the batteries are sealed, it's very possible that all of the battery cells could short circuit individually so lethal voltages might not be produced since the water would take them out of series, and make them low voltage - lithium ion battery cells are just over 4 volts and probably wouldn't hurt you underwater. But if those series connections were maintained behind a seal, then it could still be very, very dangerous! It would be an interesting experiment for Mythbusters!

Boats would probably be no different, so yeah, I agree with you. It probably wouldn't hurt anyone - even the shark! But wait - wasn't it a lake in this hypothetical situation? How the hell did that shark get into a lake? I wouldn't be surprised if the shark got killed by the fresh water...

@armingleiner5292 How do you know that? I haven't heard anything about Ukrainian losses. I'm sure it is a huge number, but I kind of doubt it's as large as russian losses because Ukraine knows it can't throw away its soldiers in meat waves like russia does.

@annaclarke7643 100% agree. The russian mindset is very selfish - what can I get out of this? This has been bred into them for generations. Trust no one. Everyone for themselves. It should be no surprise because this is a great way for dictators to control the population and prevent organized uprisings.

I struggle with this as well... Two years ago, I stuck to the "but not all russians" mantra. The thing is though, russia keeps invading its neighbors for land conquest over and over again. It's not just putin. There have also been at least 3 government structures there that, without fail, continuously invade neighbors for conquest. It's not just communism or whatever government structure you prefer to blame. Something is in the water there. It keeps happeneing. Fewer people would be hurt if russian people or russian soldiers turned against their government or commanders, but yet they don't. Now it's the rest of the world's problem. I DO blame ordinary russians. Sure, they are brainwashed, but that is not an acceptable excuse. Didn't we already run through this philosophy argument after the holocaust? If I recall, it was generally concluded that evil thrives when good people do nothing. All Germans in the 1930s had at least some blame. If you keep picking boogeyman scapegoats, this shit will keep happening. No, I firmly assert that ALL russians are at least partly to blame for this.

@grievetan There is NO WAY the USSR would have taken over all of Europe. If they tried, they wouldn't just be fighting Germany, they would be fighting the entire western world, and don't forget - the US developed nukes not long after Germany surrendered. You are 100% wrong. russia would not even exist today if they had tried to conquer Europe. Oh man, and you think they would have won without US lend lease? Unbelievable.

Historically, russia is incompetent, but they do win wars on sheer numbers. They are also ruthless and force people to absorb bullets. If they can manage to take Ukraine, they will force millions of Ukranians to absorb bullets while taking the Baltics. Same with Belarusians. That is my fear.
