  1. My local code (US) requires ground fault AND arc fault circuit interrupters for every circuit. I don't think it's fair to make a blanket statement that US is unsafe. The main thing I can think of that EU is doing superior is having the recessed plugs such that the bare terminals are never exposed and live at the same time.
