The west - and the Obama administration, if that's what you're getting at - made a horrible mistake by doing nothing after russia invaded Ukriane in 2014. We're now watching the long term consequences play out for that original error. Trump getting elected could end the concept of rule of law in the west, and that is probably the worst thing that could happen in the world. As an independent, I'm very upset with Democrats, but this will be the easiest vote I've ever made. Trump simply can not be allowed to win.

Trump literally says "lock her up" and says he will go after people who are critical of him. Is that okay? And as for Trump being prosecuted now - are you saying that running for office should give you a free pass to not be charged with any wrongdoing? Do you think Trump did nothing wrong?

Then he cites the USSR adventure as evidence that indeed, collapse can happen even after 10 years. I completely agree with you that ruzzia is far weaker and this war is much hotter than the Afghan adventure. So logically, a collapse would take a lot less than 10 years. Unless Putin is smart enough to get out before a collapse. My guess is that he is not, because he selfishly values his position of power more than all lives of his countrymen, and more than he values his country.

  12. Hello Professor Gerdes. I watch all of your videos, and I appreciate hearing the perspective of a conservative Republican, even though I think your party is a clown show... Anyway, I really like the quote from Feynman, but you're not practicing what you're trying to preach here. If anything, I see you bending over backwards to apologize for your own party's insanity. You should be bending over backwards to be critical of your own views if you want to use the Feynman quote. I'm an independent voter, and the myriad frustrations I have with the left are eclipsed 100 times over by the exceptional moral and intellectual bankruptcy of the right. When you don't call out the bad apples of your own party, you are giving them space to thrive. It is YOU, as a conservative Republican, who should be convincing other Republicans of their foolishness on lack of support for Ukraine. They won't listen to anyone that doesn't have an R next to their name. Mike Johnson, Tucker Carlson, Donald Trump, etc. are so clearly Kremlin stooges, they need to be called out - and called out by Republicans. Instead you're saying, "it's just political games". Come on. This is the most worthless House of Representatives our country has ever seen and you know it. Be critical of your party. They deserve it.

  14. Hi Professor - just so you know - the 'h' in Luhansk is transliterated from the letter 'г' in cyrillic. The Ukrainian pronunciation of this letter is best approximated by the English 'h' sound, though the Ukrainian sound comes from deep in the chest rather than the mouth. This letter is also used in the russian language where it nearly always is pronounced like the English hard 'g'. Many Ukrainians living in the region speak/spoke russian so you may have heard it pronounced with a 'g' sound, but in light of the russian invasion and the way russia chooses to weaponize its language, it should be pronounced the Ukrainian way, with a deep 'h' sound.

Did you notice that he quoted Feynman talking about how we should all strive to bend over backwards to be critical of our own statements? And then he proceeded to say most Republicans aren't that bad and Biden is bad. He literally did the opposite of the Feynman quote that he just repeated.

If you sit down and talk with them (I have to, because they are my family) you will soon discover that all they do is repeat talking points from conservative media.   49. I completely agree. Comparing Ukraine vs russia and Israel vs Hamas is just wrong on so many levels. Let's see, by population alone, Ukraine is more than 4 times larger than Israel, so right off the bat, we should be supporting Ukraine with 4x the resources. Next, Israel is a wealthy country and Ukraine is a poor country, so Ukraine needs more help. Then we have the fact that we've been pumping money and weapons into Israel for decades, so they've got a huge head start - another reason to support Ukraine more. Also, russia is 100x more formidable of a foe than Hamas, even with backing from Iran. Lastly, the consequences of russia defeating Ukraine are another world war, possibly nuclear. The way I see it, for every $1 we send to support Israel, we should be sending $100 to Ukraine. And even that is a low number in my opinion.
