@nihilistlivesmatter i did not mean that literally. i meant it in the sense that look what you have done. if you are one of the people that does a dislike on a video, without caring about the specific video's content, then i consider you responsible. the fact that you are complaining about the audience and channel under one of their videos, makes you suspicious to me

@nihilistlivesmatter there are people influenced by a mob mentality (groupthink). which can cause a disproportionate amount of dislikes. it has happened before on youtube. so i'm not so quick to assume that it's all on the creator. maybe you are not one of those people

@nihilistlivesmatter if a video simply gets more views, then wouldn't you expect the like/dislike ratio to remain about the same? it again depends on the reason it goes viral. i'm a big fan of Occam's Razor, which technically says something about the least assumptions. i'm not sure it applies here. also, i'm not judging mob mentality, as malice (i'm undecided on that)

@nihilistlivesmatter "viral for some reason" what's the reason? if the audience wasn't diverse at first then there is your reason why the like/dislike ratio changed. if someone discovers something cruel that nobody saw before, then i would not consider that mob mentality. but if someone creates a meme ridiculing the creator and that catches on, then i would consider that mob mentality. so i'm not saying that it's impossible for the ratio to change. i specifically only said "simply gets more views", implying other things equal (for example: same diversity)

@nihilistlivesmatter i remember Martin Shkrelli. but i did not say that memes are always wrong, or that no one cares about what they say. however, i do think that memes have the capability of swaying the opinion of my fellow men/women. something so easy to digest, can leave out important details they would disagree with. remember the Kony 2012 meme and the criticism that even the initial documentary it was based on received? who said anything about higher supernatural powers? if people are easily socially rewarded, then there is a tendency to seek that reward. repeating a meme does that. i'm not fixated on memes. i just thought it was a good example of mob mentality. another possible example is a coordinated effort, by for example 4chan users. i'm not projecting, but it might be better if we both refrain making conclusions without more specifics (in reference to my initial statement, and to you throughout this whole conversation)

@nihilistlivesmatter i'm reacting to you more, than trying to articulate my position. some things you say i feel strongly about other things not so much. in short: my position is that mob mentality can influence the like/dislike ratio. i have my doubts about whether memes enter wider consciousness by stripping away narrative & rhetoric. memes seem to embody these things. but swaying and reinforcing opinions go hand in hand. with swaying i meant any influence (not necessarily flipping an opinion). i don't disagree with there being an underlying truth, but i do believe that memes shift which underlying truth gets the focus, the same shift goes for coordinated efforts. someone who may see what there is to like and dislike in a youtube video, maybe have their disliking reinforced, and the like/dislike ratio gets affected as a result. then instead of the Kony 2012 meme, i will directly ask you: - do you understand that getting only the short version of a story, *can* paint a wrong picture? - do you understand that people *may* disregard a couple of their values, in order to get socially rewarded?

@nihilistlivesmatter memes don't have to have staying power to affect a like/dislike ratio. they could fade with whathever youtube video's like/dislike ratio they affected. i think you're again oversimplifying. take for example the general public that you are talking about. it's not even the general public, that affects youtube video like/dislike votes ratio. all kinds of filtering, first happens on the general public, before you are left with those that vote on a video. the view to vote ratio is the most glaring indication of this. this means that you need fewer people to affect the like/dislike ration. it's not like you have to convince the general public to affect it. the internet has a funny way of gathering a lot of crazy people together, even if you would consider that the general public is mostly sane.

@nihilistlivesmatter although not much of the general population votes on each youtube video, i can't say that it is evil/crazy people. it's not like every body in the world is voting on every video on youtube. my point is that it is only a fraction. it's such a small amount that it can be influenced by a group of crazy/evil people/trolls for whatever reason. sure it's easy to dismiss contrarian views, but this cuts both ways. there will always be people that don't really understand their grievances or what is going on, so called low information voters, that still chant/post. even when there are others with a legitimate view. it happens in all movements. when you engage with those people, then you can find out pretty quickly how much awareness/legitimacy they have. are you suggesting that Cenk is singing the praises of Joe Biden? usually Cenk explains his reasoning and it's rather sound. but before all this finger pointing politics, of left vs right. the more pressing problem is corruption in US politics. nothing gets done with this corruption.

@nihilistlivesmatter i don't dismiss everyone that downvotes a video. i never said that. i'm saying that votes *can* be influenced by a mob, because there are not many votes. you are misrepresenting my position. this makes your point about my worldview moot. i consider those voting issues you listed as important. but one can be misinformed about any of those issues, which is where the problem lies. and before you misrepresent my words: disagreement is possible. their legitimacy depends on the reason, why they chant F J Biden. "F J Biden" is not a reason. they need to be interviewed or something, and then we can discuss the legitimacy of their reason. i also explained that i think Cenk explains his reasoning, and it usually seems sound. i don't always agree with Cenk. seeing Cenk be upfront about his ethics, has actually come to make me expect more insight from others, regardless of which side they are on. but i was already curious about this before that. i simply seek the truth. i asked you if you are suggesting that those two points about F J Biden and Cenk are related. i did not state that they are. that's why i also responded to each separately. here is question for you. when you insult TYT and their audience, then are you comparing them to another and their audience, or is this just an unchangeable view you hold?

@nihilistlivesmatter mob mentality and groupthink are the same to me. i already mentioned this. that's what i meant with "mob". i don't deny that people can be motivated to downvote. i'm also not making sweeping statements about those that disagree with me. i'm saying that there is a possibility that some downvotes come about differently. not everything is black and white. i can't give you more to work with, than my opinion. maybe you are trying to read things between the lines that aren't there. it's possible that i'm not opinionated enough for you to have a vigorous discussion with. yes "misinformed" can be a proxy for disagreement, but can also not be. we don't seem to disagree here. one possibility does not exclude the other (not black and white). yes, agreed. chaning "F J biden" is a manifestation of a reason. ok let's say that the reason for chanting "F J biden" is about how he handled the Afghan withdrawal. that seems legitimate to me. it was a terrible mess. i would say that someone presented with complete information, for whatever they want addressed, is not a low information voter. but, i'm not so quick to conflate or not conflate, single issue voters with low information voters. by guy in the wheelchiar, do you mean the video "Disabled Man Shot 9 TIMES By Cop For Shoplifting". i'm not familiar with it this story. can you explain how TYT mishandled it? i can actually tell that you are more informed, than most people that i respond to. "bedwetter audience" seemed like a generalization, but fair enough, he did call you a kid. but regardless, i'm still always curious about any news sources other than TYT that try to go into the ehtics of the finer details, especially if it's opposition. if you know any.
