@HMan2828 that's way too simplistic. DB structures change all the time. no point in making the process more difficult than necessary

@jeffcrume yes. it also basically forces the user to generate a "password", because i don't expect the user to be offered the opportunity to make up a password, as a common practice

@yvikhlya no. what you are talking about is hardware tokens (this video is about passkeys). hardware tokens are problematic to backup because the main premise is that they can't be phyiscally copied. with hardware tokens you have have to get the other device from your safe place every time you need to register an account. this dance tedious and so it is error prone. passkeys finally solve this ridiculous problem by allowing the user to make a proper backup
