  1. yes. people often don't realize that we do much more than just write code. on the other hand, it gives the domain experts the chance to learn the same lessons

  2. it's not so much knowing how artificial neural networks work, but more knowing about their problems and having an idea about what they can do. no one really knows how they work exactly (that's still in active research)
