@gilkesisking that's too simplistic. how Linux is instructed, is influenced by Linux. it basically all comes back to Linux

@gilkesisking no. that's not the same. this gives the illusion that Linux can understand any instruction. the user actually has to interact within the limitations imposed by Linux

@gilkesisking i did not say that other OS's don't restrict the user's interaction. i'm not going to put a disclaimer on every statement i make. my point is that restrictions specific to Linux had a hand in causing Linus to mess up. it's easy to blame the user. but unnecessary tinkering is a common bad pattern on Linux. keep in mind that the developers and in turn distros are fallible, before you start pointing your finger

yea. it really was the best version

yes. i think it would make even more sense if they focused more on tools that could be used on any distro

@Testino Testeno i agree. he shouldn't have needed to mess with the command line. in that situation i personally tend to look up most questions from the command line at least the first time (especially such a message), because i don't expect any questions. it probably seemed to him like pressing "no" was a dead end. i think it's really great that your professor said that you should be prepared to learn. my professor told us to use Linux and acted like everything was normal, which resulted in a pretty frustrating experience. half the job was wrestling with Linux despite him being there to answer any questions, because of the sheer amount of questions. i have used Linux Mint a couple of years ago, things can break there too but it looks nice. the experimental nature of Linux is interesting. but it's unfortunate that even boring things can turn into an experiment. i was anticipating more improvements, when i started trying Linux 2 decades ago
