So the linear symmetry of time that puts constraints on the order of updates and rate of updates(interactions) is what causes the emergent properties of the universe we see, but we can never know the source of the nodes because the question of what came before time is fundermentality unanswerable. I believe the universe is the inside of a 4d black hole and that's what causes the restriction of movement in time that results in the rules we have. Or to use the verbage of the Wolfram, the length of connections between nodes have a direct relationship to what would be the short leg on a right triangle poining down on a minkowski diagram towards the future a.k.a. singularity
