Imagine children raised in a jail, where the gards never really spoke to them and never had much interaction with each other just kept in their cells. With experience outside of that, how much communication could they really have?

@Stuffthings17 quite a bit relative to nothing, but not when compared to a full functional vocabulary describing a rich experience. Studies have shown that the brain actually physically shrinks in cases of such isolation, one study I actually read should a 30% decrease in brain size between house cats and feral cats. It's my understanding that with humans such isolation can cause permanent life long psychological damage and disability. (Very sad that that can actually occur in the modern world) I have not even heard of equivalent studies with domesticated animals presumably because often there's no wild equivalent to be compared to. Selective breeding has really done a number on their brains.
