Making icebreakers is expensive and requires particular expertice, of which Finland has it all...if you need to commission 10 big icebreakers, Finland is the one you call...otherwise you are looking at a 5-10 year build time, instead of 2-3 years if you order from Finland.

@stflaw It is more that they are forbidden from attending party meetings (with a party role) and continuing to have power within the party. You see, Finnish presidents serve 6 year terms, they are basically locked 🔒 in, usually for 12 years, so it is better to stipulate that they should focus on their duties rather than party politics like beating the other parties in the next election (there will be 2-3 parliament elections during their two terms). Further more the President has much less power in Finland, so they really should focus on meddling disputes, doing diplomacy and looking at the grand scheme of things, not doing meaningless party politics....then they would be useless as that would consume a great portion of their time.

@rolle8925 Is one brain washed if there isn't anything that defies logic that they believe in? For me to have been brain washed there would be flaws to my view of the world...unlike those who swallow Russian propaganda like it's fine wine...

@rolle8925 Would you pick up the phone in 1939 if Hitler called? There is no use speaking to a dictator, it is only once a there is actual peace talks you need to talk, at any other time you would only support Putins actions by acting friendly towards him.

Haha, the US would not last long without the support of NATO, even the US do not have the population pool, recource pool or factory base to keep a war going on its own without creating internal termoil....if there is war with China, US needs Europe to have its back.

@ At least they can't get caught pressuring people, using their status in the party etc. to make demands...sure, they could do it if they wanted to in secret, but that is not as powerful as being able to go to the press, call people and attend party meetings as a full fledged high rank member.

@ Do mayors have the power over the military? Please...tell me one Major that has the power to control 200 Leopard tanks, 1000 artillery pieces, 100 fighter jets and soon 64 F-35s...to name a few.
