  2. Thanks :) well the odd thing is that we have a shit load of guns! But they are mostly from WW2 and the civil war. And on the country side like every second man is owns a hunting license if he is over 30 :P So you are kind of right :P As we have a lot of moose, dear, bears and other wild life you can easily get into a hunting team to hunt once or twice a year :) And yea Finnish is a nightmare compared to even Japanese! The grammar is horrible so we simplify it a lot when speaking unofficially :P Multi lingual knowledge is good but I wish everybody would use a common language to be honest, there is just so much room on a sign for other languages you know, and in Finland we have two official languages, Swedish and Finnish, so the Swedish speaking population has had learn Finnish just to get by. And when Swedish and Finnish is a similar as English and Japanese it is quite a pain in the ass! Having one language would be good for the European economy, right now company partnerships across boarders is very limited, only big shot companies have the economy to hire translators...it is a big mess. Well, one day we might unite under a common language, until then lets hope people keep learning English :) Nice to meet you to fellow friendly commenter :) Folks like you are scarece!

  9. I've never owned guns personally, but got pretty interested during my military service in Finland (Which is mandatory to keep your citizenship if you are a male). Now I'd like to own a gun but as the laws are you must hunt or competition shoot :/ Not really my thing to be honest. I am a bit on the fence if the public should have the right to own guns, but we got the least corrupt police and government in general so we feel pretty safe to be honest. Gun violence is crazy low and most violence happens in the home. Our main enemy in Finland is sadly alcohol haha! Which is taxed 120% sigh nothing beats genetic alcoholism.

  19. Do you even know how much more complex a smartphone is?! A high quality one costs in the neighborhood of 3000 dollars...and that is a small one, military grade... Electronics have no moving parts, so they naturally last a whole lot longer.

  20. Ever heard of sealed contacts? They use silicone to seal them selves from the outside world and silicone do not go bad with time :) I'd give it 30 decades before it fails and even then you just have to replace it, may be 10-20 bucks but easy to do :)

  24. They can but military grade electronics are tested for over 1000G;s....you wont see that in a rifle LOL. Electronics can be made as reliable as any mechanics. It is just a matter of good engineering!

Yea, neat little thing :) Yea as burglars usually only come a few at a time and often with little to no protection a simple 0.2-0.3 caliber rifle is all you need :) Pair it with a 15-30 round mag and a semiautomatic receiver and your good to go :P A reflex scope will always help with accuracy, speaking of which a good fore grip is a preferred mod for home defense too :) And the good old shoot gun is good for every bad shoot, just make sure you keep an eye out for so you don't shoot your family or friends :)

  33. It is called redundancy. And most often the ammo belt stripper fails. Not the electronics haha! The use of many computers is for greater accuracy. YOU DON'T want to have a fuck up in a high dollar gun like that.

You sure seem to have forgotten a lot since college, I study engineering right now and can say that electronics have come a long long way since the 80s...Capacitors last well over 200,000 hours now, transistors run ice cold, insulation is much sturdier, diodes have lover voltage drops and so on. With the right engineering these electronics could be sturdier than the bolt it self lol! Don't take this the wrong way, less electronics was thought in back in the day I guess?

  35. The M61 Vulcan uses it. Gunships use old primers, but they rarely need to use old guns, missiles are more effective (they have electronic primers :P)

And owning several safes is not an option for many people as it takes vast amounts of space and is way to costly! A good safe is over 3000 bucks you know...

  44. I was talking about the concept of keys to a gun, not this key in particular. Standard guns don't have guns because that would cost a lot to make and it would take extra room in the receiver! In an electric gun it would be a lot easier to fit it.

  47. No knowledge huh? Served in the Finnish military thank you very much. Now, if you are too stupid to know how to keep keys around for when you need them buy a version without the key lock. As simple as that. As for me I wouldn't mind a key at all! If I had a key to my gun I could lay it anywhere in my house without worrying about children or other people accidentally shooting with it! I always keep my Key chain on my person so it is not hard to keep track of the key.

What I meant was that key operated lock wouldn't fit in the receiver... and yes, I know far to well the inner workings of the Valmet produced AK variant the Finnish forces uses...and BTW military service is mandatory here...so we kind of have to serve ;) Sigh that is the point, with a key operated lock on the gun no one could use it if they didn't dare to open it up completely, jerry rig the lock and then put it back together again... As I said, if you are too lazy just get a variant without the key, it is not worth it trying to argue that it is useless as it clearly fills a use...

If using the old school method is 99% safe, the With this additional 99% safe method it is 99.5% safe with this, the more layers of safety you employ the less chance of accidental shooting occur... Now as you seem to think I didn't serve for some reason ask any question at me and I shall answer it to my best ability.

  51. It needs current, not high voltage, the poles of a 9V battery is way too far apart to make a connection...besides how often do you dump your ammo every were and trow 9V batteries on them?

  52. If the voltage is high less heat will be generated as resistance loss. The round would not go off. And even if it did it would not be inside a barrel, hence why it would only be as dangerous as a little rock thrown at you.

  56. Less noise, easier bolt, less complexity, less moving parts, higher fire rates, adjustable fire rates, remote control, lighter gun. A LOT would get better, I find it hard to find any drawback to be honest.

  59. Hmm, but that takes a lot of room in the receiver. And you will have to pull it with a lot of speed to charge the capacitor! Wont fire reliably i think. A battery solves all those problems, besides, it is an old design, now days you would use a 18650 lithium battery and charge it with a power bank :) Then you can just bring a 10400mAh pack and shoot until the barrel wears out HAHA

  60. Well if it is going to have to take several dozens of amps when you crank that bolt back i think it would need to be a bit beefier. We are talking charging a capacitor up to about 5 joules in .5 seconds, and as it certainly will be low voltage those copper wires will need to be thick. And the bolt will be much harder to pull back so it will disturb the sight picture a lot compared to a free sliding bolt with the battery. A 18650 lithium battery can put out between 50-100 joules a second so with that it would take .1-.05 seconds for a follow up shot which is as fast as you can do the action, and with a free sliding bolt that will be very fast! I understand if you think it would be bad in front line military action were you haven't got resupplied in months but in civilian use the use of a battery would definitely be an easier setup. Besides development for a system you are proposing would be costly to say the least. Efficiency on linear generators aren't exactly great and you don't want to be pulling the bolt back and fourth to get enough charge for a shot...spilling ammo all over the place haha!

  61. Totally depends on the primer design yes. But why skip the battery? As I said, the costs would be too high for such a receiver design, as it would need to manufactured with high precision, which is expensive. And as I come to think of it you would need to store that energy some where waiting for the next shot right? A capacitor will discharge that in a matter of seconds ;) Check mate, you need a battery :)
