This could have been great for aircraft carrier landings. Although that range would have been a bit of an issue.

@wbertie2604 that would only be fair

And there I was thinking that three wings was already a bit too silly looking, someone had to dial the wings up to 11 (or indeed 4).

Is it a revolt against Putin, or for Putin?
1
I had a quick look at the HE111 and Wikipedia gives the speed as 270 mph. It must have been painful to try and catch a bomber with only a 30mph advantage.
1
More unusual?

A brilliant aircraft if only it could have been finished while there was a war on. Was there no domestic engine makers who could have license built something?
1
They can do some damage if you hoover them into your air intake

Is a visual system like Wescam going to be good enough, on its own, to locate and target drones? I've seen similar systems like Obsidian that use RADAR to locate and provide targeting data.
1
If it has not already happened then someone is trying to fit air to air weapons to a drone right now.

@grahambaker6664 good info. Many thanks

@Aqua Fyre I saw a Predator several years ago, about the size of a Cessna single prop light aircraft, and I think that the MQ9 is bigger. Given how much damage a bird strike can do that Russian jet will need a bit of TLC.

Keeping it weird!

As the Ukrainians get Challenger 2s the Russians get antiques.

The poop bubble and it's many knock on effects

A heavily armed kite, with a sofa. Absolutely brilliant. Also Pemberton Billing owned a newspaper that was filled with crazy conspiracy theories but successfully won a libel action by simply lying really well. Strange times.
1
Long past it's sell by date and of really limited use. I'm amazed it has hung around so long.
1
I assume that the helicopter must have been pretty low and slow, but good shooting nevertheless.
1
Insert penetration pun here.

Pencil me in for one

It's a pretty remote secure site. There shouldn't be passersby and in theory everyone there should be trained to not spaff information on the internet.
1
It's amazing that they made a profit given just how much cocaine was used in the brain storming sessions where they came up with these ideas.
1
@danielstickney2400 well that's even worse.
1
I have heard of British made weapons being integrated onto Indian AF aircraft. That requires a fair amount of changing the avionics to get sensor and messaging integration. If you have a preprogrammed weapon that just needs a launch signal that is a bit easier but still a substantial amount of work.

@obsidianjane4413 does someone make a 1760 adaptor plug, or is something being ad hoc'd locally do you think?
1
Is he ratcheting up the odds, or just going for it?
1
It looks like a baby 747 shortly after hatching from it's egg
1
The Russian military seem to be so much worse at this than many imagined.

Bernard Manning circa 1975

Is it fundamentally very different from a landmine? They make operator free "decisions" to attack and with limited parameters (heavy enough?). They also continue to cause danger long after the conflict, at least these grenade bots won't be lurking for years after everyone else has gone home.
