Oh, come ohhhhn!??? Absolutely every single official Chinese person with duties in Britain is a Chinese Secret Agent! That’s their first job, with whatever their other job is coming second! Even I know that! What is our security like if they don’t take that as a given??? No wonder the Chinese have stolen so many military secrets from the west! Practically their entire navy and airforce sails and flies in equipment designed by the west! Wake up, Britain!

@Ashitaka255 : In China there’s no difference. Or the difference is a moot, academic one. Anyone who has official permission to leave China for work purposes and return again, has already been told what to look for and that they will be debriefed upon their return. You have to assume they are all spies, like we did with the Soviets during the Cold War. And like we should with Russians today. Especially if they’re rich. You can only have financial influence in places like China and Russia because the government allows it. And trying to pull off a big scam carries the risk of interfering with spying ops if you get caught, so you don’t become an international criminal from China without China’s permission. Not unless you’re willing to risk harsher punishment upon your deportation that is?

I mean, if you have an ambassador from Al Capone you HAVE TO ASSUME they are not in our country with innocent intent, right? What Chinese person HASN’T been trained by their secret service and instructed they will be debriefed for everything they have upon their return to China? Acting all surprised that they caught just ONE of them at it makes me wonder WTF our own Intel people are playing at!?

@jeremysmith8035 : In fairness, they wouldn’t bring that up in this story any more than they would talk about the Duke or York’s current legal problems. That doesn’t mean they aren’t investigating it, or discussing it on air? But, tell me a country in Europe who’s top officials haven’t been compromised by Russian bribe money and honey pot traps? I mean, Europe gets most of its gas supply from a pipe line that Putin could switch off at any moment of his choosing! Which is a bit like hiring Chinese teachers to run Democracy classes: Not just egregiously stupid, but actively harmful! If Europe was reliant on the Nazis for its weapons during WWII we couldn’t have acted more stupidly!
