@spirittammyk : P.S. But I must add, if I were to move back to America (I live in the UK now) the first thing I would do is renew my gun license and get a license to carry a concealed weapon. But only because of the laws there as they stand, and the fact that something as minor as a dispute over 10 cents at a Walmart checkout could lead to a sudden shooting incident in that country.

I am always amazed at the utter illogicality of how Americans insist they need guns in the hands of all citizens to prevent gun crime, when you only have to look at countries where guns are banned (in the developed world) to see that gun crime is vanishingly rare. I can respect the people that say they just like owning guns, enjoy target practice, feel cool when owning them, etc. because they’re being honest. But I genuinely pity the ones who have been so manipulated into actually believing their US gun laws keep them, “safer,” despite all of the hard evidence to the contrary staring them in the face.

@Acts16v31 : I do, “believe in the Lord Jesus,” as it happens. Thanks for asking. And saying that the USA has, “tough gun laws,” is factually wrong. But I do agree that not enough is done by the courts to enforce the laws that they have.

I imagine you will ignore, or delete this, but whatever . . . This sheriff, “claims,” there have been, “no home invasions since his press conference,” but I would say; we need independent statistics to verify that. A Florida sheriff is an elected official in an affluent community, with a great deal of power. I don’t doubt he is making logical sense. But he needs votes to get his job and to keep his job. He is a politician. And anyone who advocates for believing the unverified claims of a politician really doesn’t get it. Since when were laws, requiring people to show evidence of their identity, their home address and that they have no history of violent crimes, in any way, “anti 2nd Amendment”??? How did this discussion take that right turn in the middle of the road?

I’m not saying people shouldn’t shoot any home invader. Just that your analysis doesn’t hold up. You ever crossed the road without looking both ways? That’s Jay Walking, which, by your argument, makes YOU an, “outlaw,” by your own definition and your life now is forfeit. Harsh, don’t you think?

@JM-wc2kv : I was brought up to understand that your best, “self defence tool,” is your brain. That’s your first and last line of defence. Making your home secure and applying a little common sense is a factor that could have prevented at least 50% of the home invasions I came across in my colourful career, in a previous life. Like I said earlier, my sympathies start with the victim, just so long as s/he doesn’t become the perpetrator. People do dumb things when they’re scared and angry.

@Acts16v31 : So, you believe that, if enough people agree that their government is, “tyrannical,” (local or national) they have the right to arm themselves and depose that governing power by force. That is the explicitly stated purpose of The 2nd Amendment, after all. Personally, I don’t hold with such extremism or radicals generally. To me, it seems like common sense to prevent people with violent criminal records from possessing firearms, along with people deemed unfit for mental health reasons. Perhaps a test should be introduced, like the one you get for your driving license, with gradations for each answer you give on the test, background checks carried out beforehand and a practical exam at the end, showing you can shoot straight, dismantle and reassemble basic handguns, maintain them and store them safely? No way are Americans going to give up their ownership rights, but a compromise must be reached, whereby NRA representatives are not allowed to fudge matters with all their hysterical overreactions to any ideas of basic common sense.
