@spd28237 : Or they just HATE the, “other,” sufficiently to vote against their own interests? That is, after all, what the dominant right wing press has been feeding them for the past 11 years.
The lies that have been disseminated from the Dispatch Box (the Home Office in particular) have been so big, so hysterical, so egregious, that they have created an atmosphere of race baited panic in the unthinking classes and the already low level racists of Britain. They have appealed to greed and nationalism, despite hurting those who grasp at greedy straws and want a, “little England,” to be free of migration.
The ironies abound to the point where there is no superlative that could possibly express the degree to which the Tories have grown increasingly hypocritical, thieving, stupid, ignorant, backward thinking, incompetent, mean spirited and a genuine threat to national security at every conceivable level.
There will always be a significant number of voters who do not follow politics closely enough to understand the issues, yet vote the way their parents do, or their employer tells them to, for a quiet life. And there will always be a significant number of extremists, or plain stupid racists. There will also be a significant number of ignorant, greedy people who are easily manipulated into thinking a Tory vote is a vote for lower taxes and more money, despite the empirical evidence proving that the opposite has always been the case since 1945 when, whilst out of power, several reforms took place within the Tory party’s structure and political philosophy.
So there will ALWAYS be much to overcome. Just look at how BAD things have had to get before it has become obvious to the public that the Tories are no longer even Tories anymore, barely a cohesive political party! They’re more like a giant hedge fund, or, “think tank,” which is just a cover term for financial group of aligned interests (which is literally where the last, brief, PM got all of her ideas fed to her, btw) breaking down Britain into its constituent parts and selling them all off to the highest bidder from ANY country whatsoever. And they’re incompetent at that!
Can you even remember a time before when ministers actually spat bile at the electorate from the Dispatch Box? Suella Braverman’s, “speeches,” are nothing but long lists of name calling! That is unprecedented in British political life and would have been in all the headlines as a career ending mental breakdown moment for any minister a decade ago! Now it’s business as usual! WTF!?
So, yeah. There will always be those who act against everyone else’s best interests and they must be convinced or defeated. And that responsibility is yours. Mine too.

@spd28237 : P.S. I am currently reading a science fiction novel called The Three Body Problem. In it, there is a character who brings about the destruction of Planet Earth by revealing our location to hostile aliens, bent on colonisation and treating us like the Native American Indians of the 19th Century, if we’re lucky. The book is beautifully written, taking its time to describe the life of this astronomer character and why she does what she does. The reader, whilst not agreeing with her desire to see the human race either taken over and managed like children who cannot be trusted around their own dangerous toys, or simply destroyed completely, can understand her motives comprehensively.
What the author shows us is that there will always be people amongst us who have what they think of as perfectly rational reasons to destroy humanity’s best interests, alongside those who are not worthy of the responsibilities they already have or aspire to, or the just plain stupid.
It is incumbent upon the rest of us to remain vigilant and involved in our fellow human’s lives, therefore. As there may come, one day, people who are smarter than us, with better, more rational arguments, for acting in direct contradiction to every instinct of self preservation or decency. Unless we were smart ourselves and read our history, studied our current politics and comprehended where our own occupation and pass times fit into the scheme of things. Unless we know HOW to look out for our fellow traveller, we may not be able to when the crisis moment comes.
Then again, she may be right? Maybe human kind doesn’t offer anything better than desolation and destruction to a universe that would be better off without us? But, while we choose to continue our existence, we have a responsibility to ensure that this is not the case. And that means getting involved. Inaction is a decision, as much as it would be if you stood by and watched a mother beat her child to death without intervening. That is your choice. Humanity is your choice.

It’s bad enough when your government is corrupt and incompetent, but when your own government TELLS YOU that it HATES YOU unless you agree with them, be afraid!
The country can see that Tory policies don’t work, cost the working people more money, and are genuinely afraid of a party that has set new records for, “Waste, Incompetence and Corruption,” by their OWN RECORDS (costing Britain £26 BILLION POUNDS), introduces suicidally stupid financial policies that fail spectacularly, and are ACTIVELY HOSTILE toward the ELECTORATE from the Dispatch Box. Plus, the introduction of this new phenomena of brown skinned brown shirts is frightening.
So, yeah. That’s a perfectly rational response if you ask me. Getting these robber barons OUT is a matter of national security and a national emergency.
