How to tell when an interview is not good: Just jump to random points throughout the video about 5 or 6 times. Now, each time you jumped, who was talking? The interviewer, or the interviewee? When I did it, it was the interviewer every single time. And poor Anders was looking increasingly disillusioned.
It’s only my personal opinion, but a good interview draws out the guest, encourages them to expand on a topic and, in skilful hands, may even say something unexpected or revealing that they haven’t said in other interviews. Sometimes, these kinds of interviews seem to be more about the insecurities of the interviewer, attempting to establish their own credentials, expertise or credibility, by occupying all of the air time.
A frustrating experience.
I say all of this as an admirer of this interviewer and of his channel, otherrwise. But I just don’t feel he has trained for interviewing, or learned to apply his other skills to live interviewing. Unless you intend to debate with your guest, you should not talk any more than you need to, to get your guest talking, expanding on their answers, speculating or analysing.
