  1. I question that strategy? Isn’t the problem that making someone into a, “clown,” makes them also, “safe,” in the public imagination? Remember Bush Jr? The worst, least legally justifiable war in American history was fought at his instigation, and even Republicans were content to picture him as having bumbled into Iraq on the heels of the war in Afghanistan. He got away with a lot, whilst fumbling his grammar, forgetting key speech elements and walking into false doorways, getting shoes thrown at him and was made far more palatable in the western world by being a clown. Yet he carefully planned and executed a war that was illegal by every metric. Yes, we must not allow short memories to prevail. Perhaps a 24 hour moratorium could be agreed between news channels, only broadcasting key elements and gaffs from his speeches when he makes them, rather than any live broadcasts? That also gives channels the time to collate footage of him directly contradicting himself to show in direct comparison? That would take care of the floating voters.
