  1. Winston Smith found a small corner of his room that was not being surveilled, took out his journal and wrote, “down with big brother.” Rebellion begins in the heart. The irony is that in George Orwell’s fiction Winston ultimately failed, yet in so many examples of real life it actually worked! Especially in more recent decades, from the Maidan Revolution to the Polish example in this video, to recent events in Syria, the Arab Spring and, of course, the fall of Soviet Communism, to name but a few. You, the rebels, are NOT alone. And this man is SO RIGHT it hurts! Small, seemingly insignificant acts of SELF OWNERSHIP, free thinking, and tiny contributions to the cause of justice are not so little as they first appear. When others make their own tiny contributions there will ALWAYS be one among them who takes that one step which is bigger than everyone else’s, encouraging you to go further, step by step, until the snowball of rebellion grows. The old Russian mantra of, “We never talked about politics in our house,” will be no defence when Russia is looking to the west for sanctions relief in a post Putin era. A small act of rebellion requires great courage. We get it. And we will NOT forget it or abandon you. Take that one step, brothers and sisters of Russia. And be amazed at the wave of support that follows. In your heart, dear reader, you KNOW this man is right.

  4. I’m actually innumerate and dyslexic, so I don’t share your love of numbers, but I do enjoy listening to guys like you explaining these things to me. I hope you are right, since my gut and common sense tells me that Russia’s economy is burning through layers of resources, like a giant star with a growing, ever hotter, ever brighter shell, before implosion.

  5. I appreciate your sacrifice for YouTube. Now get a coat on or go indoors! The rumour I heard was that Russia would start by limiting cash machines and bank tellers to a maximum 10% of what’s in the accounts, or just an arbitrary upper limit, per day, or per week, or something? But quite often, as you will doubtless know, the mere rumour will be enough to start a run on the banks, once it spreads. To your question: I would recommend destroying those Rubles by simply spending or exchanging them and adding to their problem. Speed up the process of Russia’s financial crash by doing what Russia doesn’t want you to do; exchanging them for dollars . . . plural, singular.

But those of us who love freedom, truth and democracy; those of us willing to make sacrifices for it, cannot afford nihilism. I hope that nihilism isn’t all that you took from 1984?
