@JakeBroe See, that there - your honesty and humility - is why we love you, Jake. It’s why we trust you. You didn’t do a quick Wiki search and try to, “correct,” a criticism, nor did you feel any requirement to, “save face,” as the fact that you don’t know much about something is not a thing to feel bad about. Sadly, such issues are considered, “minor,” by the majority of the world’s population, or a solution would have been found by now. Turkey has long been buying chips at the negotiating tables of the world, by exploiting situations like these, and they will have gotten some great concessions for unblocking their objections to the Swedish. Just about every analyst said they would do so after the elections were settled and here we are. Erdogan may be a dictator in all but name, but he’s he’s a skilled player of a deep game, running rings round Putin and, on occasion, the western powers too.

@Kaziklu : You would not be alone in thinking that. Several NATO countries feel the same way. It was only 15 years ago, or so, that people took it as read that Turkey would not get into the organisation in our generation. But Erdogan has played a very deep and skilled political game (whatever we think of him, he’s no self deluding idiot, like Putin) and most people didn’t even notice Turkey quietly being given membership! Now they stick out like a sore thumb: the NATO member that is not, “really,” up to NATO standards. The black sheep of the family, who just happens to be in a geographical crux position that makes them too dangerous to have as an enemy, and too untrustworthy to have as a friend. But, any help they render to Ukraine, I’ll take that. 👍🇺🇦✌️🇬🇧

How utterly humiliating for Putin! He just has to keep wiping his bloody nose while Prigozhin defies his exile and the Wagnazis defy their orders to join the regular forces, coz’ the money? Who’s running Russia right now? 😆 Slava Ukraine, Jake. Thank you. 🇺🇦✌️🇬🇧

Corvids are the smartest birds on the planet, with some species being as clever as a 6 year old child. You could probably teach them to hang out in Russian trenches and to expect a big reward for pulling the pins out of Russian grenades. With extra rewards if they get them, and get away, without being observed. 😉

Question for you, Jake: Do you expect we will see NATO blocking the Gulf of Finland (as shown on your map) to all Russian shipping now? Including subs? Russia has long been antagonising Norway with subs and, “Russian trawlers,” (spy ships) and there have been countless diplomatic incidents in that region. And we KNOW that Russia will test all boundaries until someone stops them, at which point they WILL back down, as they ALWAYS do. But I see this as an opportunity to give Putin a bloody nose on the international stage that he cannot justify any, “escalation,” over, whilst being unable to hide the direct negative consequences of his invasion of Ukraine from his own population. I think that NATO needs to really push home its advantage by making its expansion LOUD and consequential, whilst reminding the world of how and why this happened; because of Putin’s self defeating actions.
