It’s fascinating to me that my country, Britain, many countries in Europe and the USA are all suffering the same issue with their right wing politicians. All of their clever leaders have been shunted out and the right have allowed their extremists into mainstream politics. So, the people in charge like Speaker McCarthy in the US, or Rishi Sunack in Britain, are the sorts of people who would NEVER have gotten near the leadership positions they’re in, had all things been equal. It’s like a school janitor being promoted to headmaster. These people have no clue what they’re doing, and it shows.

@BullDykee : The first part of your comment is a precise copy of a comment you posted a couple of days ago. I answered it, challenging some of the misconceptions in it. You didn’t respond. It is not, “external factors,” that make Russia the totalitarian hellscape it is today. It never was.

@dnlass460 : The vote to remove the Speaker has already been scheduled, as was shown in this video. It makes no difference to him. He might as well do some good and maintain the good will of the majority of his party, especially if he hopes to restore his position, or maybe even win the vote this time? Just scheduling the vote is an empty threat if he wins it. And maybe the rest of the party are sick of being dominated by a tiny minority of nut jobs? Maybe they’ll unite just to take away the sticks of two or three people? You know? So everyone can get on with their lives and be able to ignore the nuts?

@brandonfarris3335 : So, tell your representatives to make the illegal employment of undocumented migrants a felony offence with a minimum term for first time offenders? Add hefty fines to that, along with full court costs, so the system pays for itself. Problem solved. Just like Jake said.

As I’m pretty certain you wouldn’t be happy with Russia occupying 10 to 20 % of your land, routinely murdering random Americans in bombings and attempting to invade your nation’s capital (that’s Washington, btw) and mining half your country’s land? I’m sure you can see that America is already far better, “defended,” than Ukraine has ever been?
