  1. @ : Not sure that’s the case? Europe has been moving away from Russian supplies and, at first, they relied on supplemental oil reserves from the USA to make up the difference. Since then they have been increasing energy independence. The UK has already ended its dependence on coal completely, using wind, solar and other independent energy sources. Many countries are following suit. It takes time and not all countries will agree on the best way forward, making it complicated too. But I think that is the direction that Europe is moving toward, even if it is frustratingly slow. Personally, I reserve my anger for Germany most of all, for leading Europe into dependence on Russian oil, prior to the war with Ukraine. I have been shouting to the rafters about how corrupt and stupid this was, since the turn of the century. I was ignored or dismissed as paranoid, or having a Cold War mentality. I always knew this day would come. So I understand your frustration, but I don’t have the expertise to comment beyond generalisms.

  4. @ : Don’t know if you noticed the last budget the other day? Our military is to receive a real terms increase in spending for the first time in (I think?) over 20 years. I agree with you wholeheartedly, as a fellow Brit. So, perhaps you’ll be pleased at this development? And it will be funded by the rich, rather than the poorest in society, for a change, which is nice. Slava Ukraine, brother.

  5. @ : Seems it’s not just Washington that’s in a holding pattern, but the whole of the free world is hovering there too? All waiting to see what their relationship with America is going to be in future. Only Eastern Europe seems to be willing to expose the elephant in the room, because they know they’re next on Putin’s list. And the worse things get for Russia domestically (and they’re about to get so much worse) the more their fate is tied to getting all the resources of Ukraine to fix that. On the other hand, this is the price America pays for being the, “leaders,” of the free world and for having the rest of us all followers. They must take all the criticism too.

  6. @ : Fellow Brit here. All I would add is, we are not privy to all that goes on behind closed doors in NATO. If NATO were planning contingencies, even to go it alone, without the US, it is highly unlikely they would let the ever thin skinned trump team know anything about that. Everyone is keeping their true feelings, intentions, plans, etc, under wraps, so as not to create enemies unnecessarily or to influence outcomes. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have plans . . . ?
