@GeoEstes : Point to the bit where it says the opposite? Coz’, I’ll do you one better, son. I can’t even be bothered to look it up. Setting aside the fact that it’s a moot point, hurled into the air like all the other chaff, to distract the adults in the room, why in the hell should I do your homework for you? I’ve already explained that I could put you in a room with Vladimir Putin himself and have him admit that he’s a liar, a gangster, a sociopath and an empire building wannabe Vlad The Impaler, and you’d STILL make excuses for him.
Is Ukraine a sovereign, independent state? Yes. Did Vladimir Putin sign documentation recognising that fact? Yes. Is he breaking his own word, international law and the laws of God and humanity by attempting the largest heist in human history? Yes. All the rest is twisting the table cloth and crying like a child with hurt feelings.
The art of never losing the game? DON’T PLAY. There endeth the lesson.

user-os1gu5qb3c : Moreover, that remaining population will be over 50% past retirement age. Wars cannot be won with such populations. Meanwhile, another million or more young Russians will flee the country again at the next draft, like last time. Only, this time, it will have been harder for them to do so, meaning they will be the ones with money, brains, qualifications, etc. We’ll keep collecting up Russia’s best and brightest, while Russia will sink into the quagmire of irrelevancy. And no one who has lived in a prosperous democracy ever wants to go back.

@Thetequilashooter1 : The truth is that it’s worded in such a manner that it can be interpreted how the western powers decide. As with all politics, splitting hairs over the fine print is to miss the point. The people with the largest economies win wars, period. Von Clausewitz knew that, and nothing’s changed.
There are literally countless treaties, agreements, ceasefires, promises, speeches, undertakings, etc, that Putin has signed, stated out loud, given his most solemn word on, that have been utterly meaningless when the rubber hit the road. Everyone, even the Russians, knows that. Our enemies are frequently surprised at western sincerity when we do keep our promises, which is (historically speaking) more often than not. They don’t understand the value of honesty, integrity, trust, etc.
But that’s why Russians who fled the draft don’t want to give up their freedoms and luxuries in the west and return home, and why western civilisation enjoys a far higher standard of living and people like me are free to say that Putin is a blight on the arse of humanity, without fear of reprisal, losing my job, becoming a pariah in my neighbourhood, or that knock on the door in the middle of the night, let alone the bullet in the brain pan right in front of the Kremlin, just to make a point.
And the reason we have our luxuries, our freedoms and our healthier, more fun lifestyles is because our trading partners are based all around the world, working within a rules based system, wherein the rule of law ensures trust. What’s Russia got? A declining standard of living, drones flying into Moscow, paranoia and a depoliticised population afraid to even talk politics, who face 15 years hard Labour for holding up a blank piece of paper in front of a camera? An aging, declining population and a permanent dread of tomorrow? You can keep it.
