@Groot : Here’s hoping that, after Crimea falls back into Ukrainian hands, Putin’s position becomes so untenable that the next administration wheels out Navalny as a, “gesture of good faith,” to the world? I know, I know . . . Vanishingly unlikely. But, I remember how we all thought that about the fall of the Soviet Union. And, anyone who tells you they predicted that is, “misremembering.” Once Crimea goes down, anything is possible.

@peterlearner8594 : China’s in a precarious position itself, facing population and other demographic challenges, as well as economic problems. The last thing it needs is to have its economy destabilised. I could be wrong, but my guess is that China is only going to serve up words for Putin, not actions; at least nothing Earth shattering? It’s not in their interests. Particularly when they stop to think about the potential of having Russia grow increasingly reliant on China, just to keep existing? They would be glad to have Russia as a vassal state, which would be a huge win for their national pride, since it wasn’t so long ago that China was the one depending upon Russia’s largess, just to keep afloat. I think it would suit their leadership (for whom, “doctrine,” is still such a big deal) to have Russia become the junior partner for the world to see?
