Your thoroughness, sensitivity and diligence is truly impressive, Jake. This may sound bizarre but, once you’ve seen one beheading, you’ve seen them all. I mean that, as a younger man, I would look at such videos, telling myself I had a responsibility not to look away. But, after one, I never saw anything that edified me any further. Psychotic medieval murderers are no different, from one video to the next. What I have learned is that such disturbing images do stay with you and have a way of coming back into your head at the worst possible moments. They can sour the quality of your life. I will not look, but trust the sources I have already come to trust. That is enough for me now.

@Tokieejke : You mean, Ukraine is still fighting to rid itself of corrupt pro-Putin holdovers in government and business. The statement, “Ukraine is also very corrupt,” is a gross misrepresentation. And they have NATO backing their investigations and legislative mandate now, not just one country alone. I hope you see the distinction?

I admire your work so much, as do my wife and adult children. You have become a uniting influence in our household, which we often watch together and always share and discuss. The misuse of collective grammar results in gross misrepresentations and/or gross overstatement, serving to fog discussion and doing disservice to the topic, as well as insulting the intelligence of your interlocutors. We really ought to watch how we express things if we’re speaking in good faith. You don’t have to be a grammarian to use a little wisdom in the way you express yourself. I always suspect the motives of those who use such casual and emotive sweeping statements. ✌️🇺🇦

I think it’s worth discussing the word, “Russification,” and, “De-Russification,” as they are far more loaded and complex than I first understood. I would love to see your treatment of that topic. Historically, Russification has meant war crimes: the total obliteration of entire cultures, ways of life, languages and identity. I think many will hear those terms without grasping the full nature of what they mean, especially to those who have survived Stalin and subsequent Russian leaders, who have all used the same practices for the same, power grabbing, ends.

For me, it was when Putin was openly telling his people that he intended to cut off Ukraine’s water and energy supply. When the citizens of any country collectively perceive such war crimes against ANY civilian population as, “acceptable,” let alone actively celebrating such atrocities, they have earned themselves a collective chastisement. Since then it has only gotten worse. While this beheading is disturbing on its own, it’s actually just a drop in the atrocity bucket for Russia’s medieval, thieving, childish, brainwashed, zombie population, as the citizens of Bucha and so many other Ukrainian locations can and do testify. I have zero sympathy for the Russian population. I can accept not wishing to throw away your freedom and future by protesting, only to get 15 years for being a decent human being. But those people should leave and protest from other, safer, locations. There are no excuses when children are being raped and murdered. Just none at all.

@way2dumb : In Ukraine’s case, their best defence is rooting out all of the bought, blackmailed and otherwise compromised pro-Putin traitors and spies, which has been a work in progress since 2014. And the instrument they have been using for that is, “the law.” Let us support all of their endeavours. As they may well emerge from this as the most internationally scrutinised, comprehensively investigated, forcefully prosecuted country in NATO, with the cleanest bill of health out of all them?

@shubashuba9209 : The only way to tell the hard liner hawks from sincere protestors now is by looking at who’s in jail or fled the country and who has stayed and merely gotten on with their lives like nothing’s going on. Or that’s how it seems to me? Russians may well have had, “moral absenteeism,” bred into them over the last 100 years, but Putin TOLD them on state TV that he was trying to take away the civilian population’s water and energy supply, last year! It was already too late to feign ignorance by then, let alone the countless atrocities they’ve actively celebrated since then. The Russian population reminds me of that village in Schindler’s List, where white ashes rained down on them wherever they were and they all knew these were the last mortal remains of the population of the concentration camp down the road. But they got on with their lives, like it was snowing in Spring, without comment or demur . . . F*#k ‘em.
