It was a video game character who repeated the phrase, “Choose your battles, don’t let the battles choose you.” It might sound trite to use such an example, but that’s the attitude that has kept Ukraine in the fight against all odds. The fact is that Ukrainians have fought with such gallantry and wisdom from the outset, but that just isn’t enough. We just cannot keep this up. Unless the west chooses freedom, Ukraine will fall. And if Ukraine falls, that will be the end for democracies worldwide. Maybe slowly at first, but quicker than most realise.
